Research

The TU Dresden, the Dresden University of Technology, has gained its excellent reputation above all through achievements in engineering and the natural sciences. But the university offers a wide spectrum of studies not only in those scientific fields, but also in the humanities, the social sciences and in medicine.

Key aspects of the TU Dresden research profile are:
  • Regenerative medicine and molecular bioengineering
  • Material sciences, biomaterials and nanotechnology
  • Information technology
  • Population, infrastructure, transport
  • Water, energy, environment

In addition, the TU Dresden continuously proves its research competence  in numerous undertakings by the German Research Society and in outside-funded research projects initiated by both the public and the private sector.  In 1997, for example, the TU Dresden succeeded in bringing to the new federal states the first Collaborative Research Centre in the field of humanities research with the  Collaborative Research Centre 537 “Institutionalty and Historicity”, and the International Graduate College 625 “Institutional Orders, Letters and Symbols” , based on the Collaborative Research Centre, was even the first of its kind.

The essential basis for future-oriented and effective university teaching lies in innovative research. The research done at the TU Dresden can be characterised by:

  • high quality
  • interdisciplinarity
  • internationality
  • a close relationship between basic and application-oriented research
  • focused research areas
